Florida SouthWestern State College names Kevin Lynum director of athletics

Florida SouthWestern State College has made its decision on who will take the reins of its athletic department with the hiring of Kevin Lynum, Ed.D., to be the school's next director of athletics.

Lynum most recently worked as the athletic director at Jackson State Community College in Tennessee, where he oversaw boosts in team grade point averages, academic honors, as the department introduced new sports and hired coaching staff, and the development of a $2.3 million athletic complex.

"Dr. Lynum understands that successful athletic programs are built on more than wins and losses," said Jeff Allbritten, Ph.D., president of Florida SouthWestern State College. "His commitment to academic excellence, leadership and community engagement aligns perfectly with FSW's mission. We are excited to welcome him to the Buccaneer family."

Before his time at Jackson State, Lynum was also the head coach of Florida A&M University's women's basketball team, an assistant women's basketball coach at Norfolk State University, and served in the United States Army as a staff sergeant, journalist, and broadcast supervisor for eight years before going into collegiate athletics.

Lynum earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Southwestern College, a Master of Education from Florida A&M University, a Master of Business Administration from Warner University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from American Military University.
