Cape Coral pair turns to WINK after loud music disrupts sleep for months

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—A Cape Coral couple turned to WINK Listens, saying loud music from a nightclub across the street has been keeping them up at night.

Wayne and Virginia Rogers say they've called police and reached out to city leaders but haven't found a solution. They say the noise is what they deal with every weekend.

"I want to know who thought this was a great idea to put a nightclub across the street from a neighborhood," Wayne Rogers said.

When the Rogers came to WINK Listens, they said they weren't looking to shut Nexus Bar and Lounge down. Wayne Rogers said they just want the music lowered and for the business to be respectful as neighbors.

The couple says they've called the police, reached out to city leaders and tried to find a compromise. The Rogers say the lounge plays loud music from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., and they can't enjoy their home or sleep.

"You can hear it through the floor. The house is like shaking. Feel the vibrations in the floor," Virginia Rogers said.

Cape Coral police say they've received 18 noise complaints in the area surrounding Nexus Lounge since July 1. Officers responded to those calls but say no violations have been documented.

"We've called the police. They send out, you know, the officer. They go in. They talk to them. They lower it. Police leave. They raise it," Wayne Rogers said.

WINK News reached out to the owner of Nexus Bar & Lounge. The owner says according to the measurements taken at the establishment, the music does not exceed the decibel levels permitted under the applicable regulations. The owner says the goal is to provide entertainment for guests without disturbing the peace of those who live or work near the establishment.

The owner also says the lounge is committed to operating responsibly and will make any additional adjustments needed. Wayne Rogers says all they can do is try and hopefully something will get done.

Cape Coral police say the Rogers' concerns have been passed along to their department that handles quality of life issues.
