Florida CFO presents $8M to Collier County Sheriff's Office for immigration enforcement

Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia visited Collier County to present a check of more than $8 million to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, part of a $250 million statewide fund to reimburse law enforcement agencies for assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with immigration arrests.

"We have this big pot of money we set aside for these law enforcement as reimbursements," Ingoglia said.

Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk explained how the funds will be used.

"It can be simple things from replacing bedding to making conditions as best we can make them for everyone," Rambosk said.

Rural Hendry County received $80,000, and Sheriff Steve Whidden described why his county sees a high number of immigration arrests.

"So when we get a lot of the violent criminals, they tend to focus coming to these areas, because we have so many immigrants there to begin with, good immigrants that work hard," Whidden said.

Naples and Arcadia police departments also received checks.

So far this month, Ingoglia has distributed $24 million to law enforcement agencies across Florida. The funding was approved by the state last year.
