Man arrested after carjacking at Fort Myers gas station, deputies say

A man accused of carjacking at a Fort Myers gas station was arrested on Wednesday, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

LCSO says that after 6 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a carjacking at the Coast Oil gas station on Palm Beach Boulevard. A victim told deputies that he had parked his running car near the front entrance when a man walked directly to the car, went inside and locked the doors.

The victim said that when he tried to stop the theft, the suspect drove away. The victim fell to the ground and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, LCSO says.

Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department located the stolen vehicle a short time after and detained the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Marvin Brown, before turning him over to LCSO.

According to LCSO, detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit interviewed witnesses, collected evidence and reviewed Brown's post-Miranda statements before determining there was probable cause to charge him with carjacking without a weapon.

Brown was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail, where he remains in custody.

LCSO says Brown is a registered felon with prior arrests that include fleeing and eluding law enforcement, narcotics offenses, battery on a law enforcement officer, fraud and burglary.
