Charlotte County deputies are searching for George Kilgore III, who they say fired a gun during a family argument at a home on Cape Terrace Northwest in Port Charlotte.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots from the driveway and remain on edge as the suspect has not yet been found.
"It was definitely nerve-wracking, especially for my older child; she kind of was freaking out for most of the day," said Kylie Rivers, a neighbor.
Rivers said her family has taken extra precautions.
"We've just been keeping the house under lock, and we've got the security system on, and the shutters down just in case," she said.
Deputies said their major crimes unit responded to the home after receiving a report of gunfire.
"I had heard an initial loud one, but there could have been more than that," Rivers said.
According to deputies, an argument broke out between Kilgore and his family before he fired into a family member's car parked in front of the house. Kilgore fled the scene before deputies arrived.
"That's when we kind of noticed that we were unfortunately not able to leave the neighborhood either the back way or the side way. We had to take the exit on 41 due to all the cops," Rivers said.
Rivers shared photos showing deputies blocking the street, which she said lasted for hours. Another neighbor captured video of deputies using K-9 units to search the area.
"I definitely hope that he's found," Rivers said.
Deputies said they recovered the gun they believe Kilgore used and added that he is facing charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
