Cape Coral flag removed from 250-foot pole after damage

The City of Cape Coral has taken down the flag that was flying on their 250 ft. flagpole near the Cape Coral bridge after an issue caused it to hang down on Saturday morning.

According to the city, staff identified what initially appeared to be an issue with the leader line. Further inspection revealed an issue with an eyelet on the flag.

The city says that it has been in contact with the manufacturer to address the issue, and that the original contract includes two flags. A replacement flag is in production and on the way and the current flag will either be repaired or replaced, it added.

The tallest flagpole in Florida, spearheaded by City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn, was community funded. The project raised more than $300,000 in donations to cover construction costs.

The city says that the flag will be reinstalled once it is safe to do so.
