Cape Coral removes giant 250-foot flag for urgent repairs

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)— The City of Cape Coral says it temporarily removed its 250-foot flag after staff identified a potential issue.

What initially appeared to be a leader line concern was later identified as an issue with an eyelet on the flag. City officials said they understand the community's frustration and are committed to getting the flag back up as quickly and safely as possible.

The city says the flag was removed in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code so staff could fully assess the situation and coordinate with the manufacturer. Officials say they're actively working with the manufacturer to evaluate the issue.

The current flag will either be repaired or replaced. The original contract includes two flags, and a replacement is already on the way.
