This Afternoon

Southwest Florida started the day with scattered showers and thunderstorms moving onshore from the Gulf, bringing periods of heavy rain and lightning to many communities during the morning hours.

While there may be a brief lull in activity midday, another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop through the afternoon as storms shift inland.

Both coastal and inland communities likely to see additional rounds of rain. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the low 90s, although areas that experience persistent cloud cover and rainfall may stay a few degrees cooler.

Monday

The workweek begins on a slightly drier note, with only a few pop-up showers and storms expected along the coast during the morning. Rain coverage will be a little lower than Sunday's, with the greatest storm activity shifting inland during the afternoon. High temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s.

Looking Ahead

The overall weather pattern remains fairly consistent through the upcoming week as a ridge of high pressure and persistent westerly flow remain in place across the region.

This pattern will continue to support a few overnight and morning showers over the eastern Gulf that may drift onshore before scattered afternoon thunderstorms develop across Southwest Florida. Each day, the highest rain chances will generally shift inland as the west coast sea breeze pushes eastward.

The continued westerly flow will also help keep afternoon temperatures near seasonal averages, with highs remaining in the low 90s through much of the week.

Keep a close eye on radar during the first half of the day, as scattered showers and thunderstorms move onshore. Northwest winds will be around 5 to 10 knots, with a light chop on the bays.
