Cape Coral shop owner warns businesses after alleged phone theft

A Cape Coral mobile repair store owner is warning other businesses after a man allegedly stole an iPhone 16 from a display case, an incident captured on surveillance video.

Surveillance footage from the I-Fix-It mobile repair store on Del Prado Boulevard shows a man allegedly sliding open a display case, grabbing an iPhone 16, and tucking it inside his jacket.

"The person I was trying to help was the one who took it. He stole the phone," said Ediesky Rojas, the store owner.

Rojas explained that he was the only employee working at the store on Friday when the man entered, asking to have a phone repaired. Rojas went to the back to check for the necessary part, and during that time, the man allegedly took the phone from the display case.

"He took my business card, I gave him my blessing, and he had already taken the phone," Rojas said.

Another camera captured the man leaving the store in a white Chevy Suburban. Rojas said he didn’t realize the phone was missing until about 30 minutes later.

Angel Linares, an employee at the store, reviewed the surveillance footage and expressed disbelief at the man’s behavior.

"Well, I saw the video and that was crazy how the customer put the hand behind the showcase and grabbed the phone. That was like incredible. I can't believe it," Linares said.

Rojas has since filed a report with the Cape Coral Police Department. Linares said the shop is now considering adding locks to secure its display phones.

"You never know what intentions someone may have," Rojas said.
