Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann found guilty of violating probation after positive drug test

Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann was found guilty of violating her probation after a random drug test showed a positive result for cannabinoids.

Heitmann testified in court, repeatedly stating that she never used marijuana. Her attorney presented independent tests they claimed came back negative.

The judge ultimately ruled that the original March test was sufficient to prove the presence of cannabinoids in her system. The same test also showed a positive result for amphetamines, which Heitmann said were due to her Vyvanse prescription for ADHD.

Heitmann is prohibited from using drugs or alcohol as part of her probation for a 2024 DUI.

Instead of the 10 days in jail requested by prosecutors, the judge ordered Heitmann to complete 10 days of weekend community service, extended her probation until May 16, 2027, and required additional drug testing.

Outside the courtroom, Heitmann briefly commented, saying, "It’s a shame," in her first public statement on the matter.

Starting Aug. 10, Heitmann will begin her 10 days of weekend community service, with all other probation rules still in effect.
