NAPLES, Fla. (WINK)—Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann took the stand in court for a hearing related to her violation of probation charges.
When she learned that a urine sample from March 26 tested positive for THC, Heitmann said she told her probation officer that could not possibly be correct since she hasn't had any contact with THC. She says she called her lawyer and they went to a new lab and submitted a new test immediately, which came back negative.
Heitmann says she got a hair sample test days later, which also came back negative. Since then, her probation officer and drug test administrator have also been questioned.
Heitmann will serve 10 days through weekend work after a judge extended her probation.
The judge set a new probation termination date of May 16, 2027. All original conditions remain in place, but travel restrictions were lifted because Heitmann is not considered a flight risk.
The judge imposed 10 days that could be served as straight jail time, weekend lockdown or weekend work. Heitmann's attorney chose the weekend work option.
The weekend work could start as early as Aug. 10. The judge confirmed the timeline with Heitmann's attorney in court.
Details about what the weekend work will involve have not been released.
