FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WINK) — A traffic signal near Times Square at Old San Carlos Boulevard and Estero Boulevard became fully operational Tuesday morning, ahead of its original schedule.
The Lee County Department of Transportation announced the restoration comes earlier than the estimated early fall completion date. The signal had been inactive since Hurricane Ian caused damage to the intersection.
Lee DOT encourages drivers to continue using caution, as crews will still be working in the area on other items included in the contract. The county worked with the federal government for hurricane repairs to receive reimbursement, so local taxpayers did not incur all the expenses.
The Lee Board of County Commissioners awarded the contract to repair the signal during a regularly scheduled board meeting earlier this year. The intersection and management of traffic there falls under the Town of Fort Myers Beach or their partners at the Lee County Sheriff's Office, as this intersection is within the town's jurisdiction.
