Fort Myers man charged after mom found shot, burned in Ranchette Road home

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A 23-year-old man is behind bars after what the Lee County Sheriff's Office called the most horrific acts of violence imaginable.

Investigators said George Beemer killed his own mother, then lit her on fire. New body camera video from the Lee County Sheriff's Office shows Beemer's arrest last Saturday.

He now faces second-degree murder, first-degree arson and abuse of a dead human body. New this morning, his arrest report says he admitted to shooting his own mother, waiting for her to die, then lit her body on fire.

According to investigators, it all started when Beemer called 911 complaining of chest pains at the Ranchette Road home. While he was being taken to the hospital, a second 911 call came in reporting a fire at the same home.

When firefighters arrived, they found a woman's dead body, badly burned. It was so burned the sheriff's office still cannot positively identify it.

Beemer remains in custody as the investigation continues. He is scheduled to be in court for a motions hearing on Wednesday.
