I-75 standoff suspect appears before Lee County judge wearing a neck brace

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The suspect accused of causing an hours-long standoff that shut down I-75 in Lee County appeared before a Lee County judge on Tuesday by video on an iPad from his hospital room, wearing a neck brace and speaking only briefly.

The hearing was for an out-of-county warrant issued by Pinellas County, where prosecutors have charged Ladavion King with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the fatal shooting of a St. Petersburg sanitation worker.

Judge Devin S. George confirmed King understood the proceedings and informed him he would be held without bond on the Pinellas County warrant.

The judge also explained King will remain in Lee County while he faces the local charges stemming from last week's I-75 standoff.

Once those cases are resolved, Pinellas County will have five days to take him into custody to face the homicide charges.
