Lehigh Acres man arrested, accused of shooting at vehicle attempting U-turn in his driveway

A Lehigh Acres man was arrested on Sunday after being accused of shooting at a car that was making a U-turn in his driveway. According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the area of 10th Street Southwest after receiving reports that three women had been shot at while trying to turn their vehicle around in a residential driveway. Detectives determined that the victims had entered the driveway to make a U-turn when a man exited a home armed with a handgun and shot at the vehicle as the victims fled the area, LCSO said. No victims were injured in the shooting. The suspected gunman in the shooting was identified as Christian Gomez, 31, according to LCSO. Deputies found a 9mm handgun in Gomez's home while executing a search warrant. Further investigation revealed that Gomez is a convicted felon who did not have the right to own a firearm, LCSO said. Gomez was arrested and faces charges of shooting into an occupied conveyance and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. "Firing a gun at an occupied vehicle is a reckless act that could have easily ended in tragedy," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. "Thanks to the swift response of our deputies and the diligent work of our Violent Crimes Unit detectives, this dangerous individual is behind bars where he belongs. In Lee County, we will continue to hold violent offenders accountable and ensure our residents can feel safe in their communities."
