I-75 standoff suspect's hearing delayed Wednesday as he remains hospitalized

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A hearing for the suspect accused of triggering last week's hourslong I-75 standoff in Lee County was postponed Wednesday because he remains hospitalized.

Ladavion King's pretrial detention hearing did not move forward after prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed it would be impractical to hold the hearing while he is still in the hospital.

On Tuesday, King appeared before a Lee County judge by video on an IPad from his hospital room, wearing a neck brace and speaking only briefly.

The defense requested a short delay to determine whether King will be medically cleared and released. The judge granted the request and directed both sides to stay in contact about King's medical status.

The court is expected to check on King's condition Thursday.

If he is released from the hospital, the pretrial detention hearing could be held Friday morning. If he remains hospitalized, the hearing will likely be pushed to next week before Judge Kyle, who is expected to handle the case going forward.
