Marco Island officer rescues injured burrowing owl after citizen tip

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. (WINK)— A burrowing owl is receiving care after concerned citizens reported finding the possibly injured bird earlier this evening.

Officer Terranova with the Marco Island Police Department responded to the animal call. The group of citizens discovered the owl and reported it to authorities, allowing officers to safely secure the bird, according to a press release from the department.

The owl is currently being cared for at the Marco Island Police Department. It will be transferred to a licensed wildlife rehabilitation organization.

The police department thanked community members for looking out for local wildlife.
