FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Fort Myers Police Department is working an active incident on Maravilla Avenue involving a barricaded man, which led to an officer-involved shooting.
At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Fort Myers police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a firearm.
Police shut down part of Maravilla Avenue after gunshots were fired and a person barricaded themselves inside an apartment. A SWAT team and dozens of officers flooded the area.
Investigators identified the man shot by police as 23-year-old Aaron Spencer. Fort Myers police say Spencer was inside the home when officers arrived.
A second person was found dead before police entered. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now leading the investigation.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave. WINK News is still working to get the name of the second person who was found dead inside the home.
