FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The Fort Myers Police Department is working an active incident on Maravilla Avenue involving a barricaded man, who and shots fired on Wednesday morning.
At around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Fort Myers police responded to a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. According to police chief Jason Fields, further information found at the scene revealed that a person within the home had been killed.
Upon arrival to the scene, law enforcement encountered the barricaded subject, Aaron Spencer, 23, was armed and refusing to leave the home.
According to Fields, an officer-involved shooting occurred at the home, where Spencer was injured. Officers on the scene rendered aid to Spencer; however, he succumbed to his injuries.
The scene remains active.
Police have not clarified if the report of the deceased person within the home was accurate. Our team is working to confirm that information.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
