LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK)— A large law enforcement presence, including a Lee County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, responded to a Lehigh Acres neighborhood Wednesday evening near where a 15-year-old was killed.
WINK News crews at the scene saw SWAT deputies on 21st Street Southwest giving commands to someone inside a home to come outside with their hands up. Deputies could also be heard saying they had a warrant for the person's arrest.
Drones were flying over the area as deputies blocked off several streets.
The sheriff's office has not said who deputies were looking for or if anyone was arrested.
The operation was happening near 22nd Street Southwest and Haviland Avenue South, with deputies blocking roads toward Gilbert Avenue South.
The SWAT response comes as the Lee County Sheriff's Office investigates the killing of 15-year-old Matthew Kymani Stmarc. His family identified him after a shooting, and deputies confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide.
The sheriff's office has not confirmed whether the SWAT operation is connected to Stmarc's death.
