A Cape Coral woman was arrested on Tuesday after being accused of stealing over $60,000 worth of jewelry and selling it. According to the Cape Coral Police Department arrest report, on May 17, deputies responded to a home after the caller told them that a woman had stolen his jewelry, which included a presidential diamond bezel Rolex watch. The victim told deputies that he suspected that Sarah Hankins, 30, had stolen his bag of jewelry, despite her denying taking it, the report said. The bag contained the Rolex watch, a diamond tennis bracelet, a diamond ring, and a gold necklace with a medallion with diamonds on it. The total value of the jewelry was estimated to be $61,000. On July 27, a witness contacted CCPD and informed officers that Hankins had confirmed to her that she had stolen the victim's jewelry and sold it to a pawn shop owner, the report said. Officers contacted the pawn shop owner, who confirmed he had purchased the described jewelry from Hankins at the Cigar Bar in Fort Myers, the report said. When officers told him that the jewelry was stolen, the pawn shop owner was audibly upset and agreed to help. Officers then spoke to multiple witnesses who were present at the time of the sale and claimed to have no knowledge that the jewelry was stolen, the report said. On July 28, officers found Hankins driving on Hancock Bridge Parkway in Cape Coral and conducted a traffic stop. They detained Hankins, and while searching her vehicle, they found a pill bottle containing methamphetamine and a glass pipe in her purse, the arrest report said. Hankins was arrested and faces charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
