Fire crews contain blaze at historic Fort Myers home, no injuries reported

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—A fire broke out in a nearly 100-year-old home that had been converted into an efficiency with multiple electrical panels and individual rooms, according to Fort Myers Fire Chief McMillion.

The owner was on scene when the fire started and attempted to rescue some of his equipment. He was treated by Lee County EMS but did not require transport to a hospital.

Crews brought the fire under control and are now searching for hotspots to ensure no fires remain in void spaces. The 2,000-square-foot structure was built in 1926.

No injuries were reported to any patients or fire crew members. Florida Power & Light is on scene managing power for the area.

Fire investigators from the City of Fort Myers are waiting to begin their investigation of the property.
