For the Love of Cats gives Collier County felines a 2nd chance, 1 rescue at a time

NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — From tiny orphaned kittens to senior cats searching for a quiet home, one Collier County nonprofit is proving every cat deserves a second chance.

For more almost 25 years, For the Love of Cats has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding homes for cats throughout Collier County. Founded in 2002, the all-volunteer, no-kill nonprofit began with a focus on Trap-Neuter-Return, commonly known as TNR, and has since expanded into a lifeline for thousands of cats and the people who care for them.

Whether it's an abandoned kitten, an injured stray, a pregnant cat or a senior feline in need of a loving family, the organization steps in with resources and support. Volunteers also help community cat caregivers, provide emergency assistance and connect low-income pet owners with affordable veterinary care, helping families keep their beloved pets instead of surrendering them.

President and co-founder Jan Rich said they aren't just helping cats, " We're helping people too. If we can stop the cat population from growing in these areas, it'll be easier for the neighbors and people too."

One of the rescue's biggest missions is reducing cat overpopulation through TNR. Cats living outdoors are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and returned to their familiar territory, preventing future litters while improving the health of community cat colonies. The organization has worked alongside local veterinarians, rescue groups and animal welfare partners to make a lasting impact throughout Collier County.

The organization also lends traps out to those who want to trap cats in their own yards, said volunteer Monica Richard, " Anyone can do it. You can even go to domestic animal services to get your cats neutered for free."

Beyond adoptions, the nonprofit depends on volunteers and donations to continue its work. Community members can help by fostering kittens, assisting with trapping efforts, transporting cats to veterinary appointments, helping at fundraising events or making financial contributions that go directly toward lifesaving care.
