Investigation into 15-year-old’s death continues

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — Four days after 15-year-old Matthew Kymani Stmarc was killed in Lehigh Acres, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office says detectives continue to work around the clock as the homicide investigation remains active.

On Thursday, WINK News observed deputies going door to door on 20th Street Southwest, knocking on homes as investigators continued following up on leads throughout the neighborhood.

The activity comes one day after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team served a search warrant at a home on 21st Street Southwest.

WINK News spoke with the people who live at that home. They said they do not know why deputies came to their residence, said no one there was arrested, and offered their condolences to Matthew’s family.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office told WINK News it cannot confirm whether the ongoing investigation involving the home on 21st Street Southwest is related to Matthew Stmarc’s homicide.

However, investigators did confirm that multiple search warrants have been executed as part of the ongoing investigation involving the home on 21st Street Southwest.

The Sheriff’s Office also said its Major Crimes Unit continues to follow leads, conduct interviews and gather evidence.

Investigators are not releasing additional information at this time, saying doing so could compromise the integrity of the active investigation.

For many who live nearby, the uncertainty has been difficult.

“It broke my heart. Nobody deserves it,” said Lehigh Acres resident Maria Solis. “I wish they can find quickly what happened to him.”

Solis said she has tenants who live near the investigation and told WINK News they have seen deputies going door to door in recent days. Like many neighbors, she hopes investigators soon determine what happened.

“Keep looking and doing the best they can,” Solis said. “Find out who did this. He didn’t deserve to die like that.”

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has not announced any arrests in Matthew Stmarc’s homicide and continues asking for patience as detectives work the case.
