Lee County man caught in woods after snatching chain off victim's neck, deputies say

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A robbery suspect who deputies say fled on a tricycle was quickly caught hiding in nearby woods, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the Orange River Boulevard area after a robbery was reported. According to the sheriff's office, investigators learned the suspect, Paul Sloan, ran up to the victim, grabbed a chain from the victim's neck and pushed the victim to the ground.

The sheriff's office said Sloan then fled the scene on a tricycle and hid in a nearby wooded area. Deputies canvassed the area and found Sloan standing next to the tricycle, according to investigators.

Due to the nature of the crime, the sheriff's office said its Violent Crimes Unit detectives took over the investigation. Investigators said Sloan matched the suspect's description and that they developed probable cause to arrest him.

Sloan was arrested on a charge of robbery by sudden snatching.
