Cape Coral man accused of DUI crashes into police volunteer vehicle blocking downed power lines

Officers say a Cape Coral man was arrested after crashing into a marked police volunteer vehicle while utility crews worked to clear downed power lines. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, officers responded to a vehicle crash on Thursday where 40-year-old Kurtis Michael Lynett was determined to be the at-fault driver. Police said Lynett’s vehicle struck a marked Cape Coral Police volunteer unit that was blocking the northbound lanes in the 3700 block of Santa Barbara Boulevard while LCEC crews worked to clear downed utility lines from an earlier crash. No injuries were reported. Officers said they observed signs of impairment and conducted a DUI investigation. According to police, Lynett refused standardized field sobriety exercises, and his blood alcohol content was .277. Lynett was arrested on multiple DUI-related charges, including DUI with property damage and DUI with a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher.
