Collier County moves forward with design for Livingston Road flyover

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)— Collier County is moving forward with design plans for a four-lane flyover at the intersection of Livingston Road and Immokalee Road, a project aimed at easing daily traffic backups that have frustrated drivers.

The county hopes the potential project can reduce delays and improve traffic flow at the congested intersection. County leaders pointed to the Golden Gate Parkway and Airport-Pulling Road overpass as an example of the type of improvement they hope to achieve.

Drivers say any traffic improvement is needed with the influx of new neighbors. The intersection of Livingston and Immokalee could potentially see a flyover above Immokalee Road.

"The housing that's going up is causing so much congestion, and these intersections are necessary," Joyce Staley said.

County leaders say the design phase will take about 30 months before construction can begin. They say the project is part of a long-term effort to address growth and traffic congestion throughout the area.
