It was another warm and muggy start across Southwest Florida, with only a few spotty showers moving through Charlotte County this morning. This afternoon, isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop along the coast before pushing inland, leaving beach communities drier later this evening.
A few storms could produce heavy downpours, with a low-end risk for localized flooding, especially across Glades, Hendry, and Charlottle counties. High temperatures will stay below average, reaching the lower 90s.
Sunday will begin on a wetter note, with scattered showers possible along the coast during the morning. Rain and storm coverage will continue to increase through the afternoon and evening across Southwest Florida.
With more clouds and rain around, temperatures will be held down even more, and many locations may struggle to reach 90 degrees.
Looking ahead, Sunday will be a wetter day with more widespread showers and storms expected. The tropics remain quiet, with no development expected over the next seven days.
West winds at 5 to 10 knots will continue today, with Gulf seas running 2 to 3 feet. Boating conditions remain generally favorable, but keep an eye on the radar during the first half of the day for a few passing showers and thunderstorms.
The tropics remain quiet, with the National Hurricane Center not expecting any tropical development over the next seven days. While there is nothing to watch right now, August 1 marks the beginning of the climatological peak of hurricane season, making this the time of year to stay prepared and keep an eye on the tropics.
