The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office announced on Saturday that a detainee in the DeSoto County Jail has died. DCSO says that on Friday, Tasha Idella Brown, 53, was transported to DeSoto Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for an illness. She died in the hospital that same day. Brown was arrested on June 16 on charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for sale of a schedule II controlled substance (crack cocaine) within 1,000 feet of a park. DCSO says that they are working with the Medical Examiner's Office and that this remains an active investigation. “I want to extend my condolences to Tasha Brown’s family and friends,” said Sheriff James F. Potter. “An incident like this is taken extremely seriously, and detectives will conduct a thorough investigation, which aligns with our protocols following an in-custody death.” DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
