‘I got my daughter in the car’: Father recalls Midpoint Bridge road rage caught on dashcam

A Cape Coral man says he was involved in a dangerous road rage incident Saturday morning on the Midpoint Bridge while driving toward Fort Myers with his 3-year-old daughter in the car. "Those weren't my emotions at the time. I was just concerned for the well-being of my daughter," said Andrew Toney, the driver involved in the incident. Toney said he is still trying to understand why the situation occurred. Dashcam footage shows an SUV driver brake-checking Toney twice. "I don't know what caused it, could have been I was going too slow for him, but at that point, I felt like he could have just gone around me, but he decided to choose violence that day," Toney said. The footage also captured Toney honking his horn and confronting the other driver, saying, "I got my daughter in the car. You crazy ." The SUV driver continued to follow Toney until he reached a gas station in Fort Myers, where Toney called Fort Myers police. FMPD said they took a report and issued a BOLO but were unable to locate the driver. They also shared the following statement to Gulf Coast News on Monday: "Because officers did not witness the incident and were unable to locate the vehicle, no enforcement action was taken. As with any reported incident, it is important to remember there are always multiple perspectives, and law enforcement relies on the totality of the available evidence when determining what occurred. "Road rage and aggressive driving create serious safety risks, particularly on heavily traveled roadways like the Midpoint Bridge. If you encounter an aggressive driver, do not engage. Instead, if it is safe to do so, pull over to a secure location away from the other vehicle before calling law enforcement. Providing officers with a statement, accurate vehicle description, license plate number, location, and direction of travel greatly improves our ability to respond." Cape Coral police told Gulf Coast News they weren't aware of the road rage incident either.
