CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Mariner High School's head football coach has been suspended just over a week before school starts.
The Lee County School District confirmed Tyran Jones has been placed on administrative leave. The district said the suspension followed what it described as an incident at a team-building event.
As soon as district leaders learned about the incident, the superintendent and district administration launched an investigation. Jones was placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
School Board Chairman Armor Persons said in a social media post he won't speculate until the investigation is complete. If district policies were violated or students were put at risk, he said he expects "appropriate accountability and corrective action."
The board does not have a role in the investigation unless the case comes before the board for termination.
With the first day of school approaching, parents plan to take action and make their voices heard at a meeting on Monday night.
