Monday starts warm and muggy, with morning temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. We've been seeing showers and thunderstorms develop along the coast during the morning, and that trend is expected to continue, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms beginning as early as 5 am.
By the afternoon, highs will climb into the lower 90s with a mix of clouds and sunshine. The best chance for storms will be along the I-75 corridor. If you live farther inland in Glades and Hendry counties, you'll likely have a better chance of staying dry.
Not everyone will see rain, but any storm that develops could produce heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. Keep the umbrella handy, especially if you'll be out during the morning commute or have afternoon plans.
If you're headed to the beach, use extra caution. A high rip current risk remains in effect for Lee and Charlotte County beaches. Boaters can expect southwest winds around 10 to 15 knots, seas of 2 to 3 feet, and a moderate chop.
Tuesday looks like a transition day before we settle back into a more typical August weather pattern by the middle of the week. As winds gradually shift back out of the east, afternoon thunderstorms will become more common, especially along I-75. Rain chances increasing to around 50 to 60 percent through the second half of the week.
Temperatures will remain seasonable, with afternoon highs in the lower 90s and warm, muggy mornings in the upper 70s.
