The City of Marco Island has announced that it has officially appointed the next Chief of Police for the Marco Island Police Department. On Monday, the city announced that Joseph Belardo will serve as the Chief of Police following a highly competitive selection process. Belardo has served with the Marco Island Police Department since 2020 and has been serving as the interim police chief since May after former Police Chief Tracy Frazzano announced her retirement. "Chief Belardo distinguished himself throughout a highly competitive selection process," said City Manager Casey Lucius, PhD. "His proven leadership, commitment to professional policing, and genuine dedication to the Marco Island community made him the clear choice to lead this outstanding department. I am confident he will continue building on the department's strong foundation while guiding it into the future."
