North Fort Myers man accused of threatening children with knife outside Cape Coral shopping plaza

A Cape Coral man was arrested Thursday after police said he reportedly threatened two children with a knife outside a Hobby Lobby on Del Prado Boulevard South. According to a Cape Coral Police Department arrest report, officers responded around 2:50 p.m. on July 30 to the shopping plaza for a disturbance involving a weapon. Police said the two told officers they had stopped their e-bike near the Hobby Lobby entrance to look at their phone when a man approached them. According to the report, the man reportedly pulled a folding knife with a black handle and silver blade from a fanny pack, opened it, and asked, "Where are you riding to ," while walking toward them. The two told police they feared for their safety, left their e-bikes behind, and ran into the Hobby Lobby, where other adults were present. Officers later located a man matching the description in front of a nearby Chipotle restaurant. Police identified him as Jason Bourque and said he was reportedly carrying a folding pocket knife matching the victims' description. Investigators reviewed surveillance video from Hobby Lobby that showed the children arriving on the e-bike before quickly looking over their shoulders, abandoning the bike, and running into the store. The suspect was not visible in the camera's field of view, according to the report. Police said each of the children separately identified Bourque during a show-up identification with "100% certainty." Officers seized the folding knife as evidence. Bourque was arrested and is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
