Car fire stops traffic on Sanibel Causeway

SANIBEL, Fla. (WINK)— A vehicle fire shut down traffic in both directions on the Sanibel Causeway.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office confirmed emergency responders were on scene. Passersby reported the vehicle was struck by lightning.

Westbound lanes were impacted, and traffic backed up as the vehicle was towed. It is unclear if anyone was injured.

All lanes have since reopened. Officials asked drivers to use caution and consider delaying travel if possible while the incident was being cleared.
