Lakes Regional Park splash pads reopen in Fort Myers after Hurricane Ian repairs

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The splash pads at Lakes Regional Park have reopened following a full replacement project after damage from Hurricane Ian.

The new splash pads opened to the public at 9 a.m. Aug. 5 at 7330 Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers, according to a press release from Lee County Parks & Recreation. The improvements are part of the county's ongoing efforts to restore park amenities impacted by the storm and enhance recreational opportunities for the community.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 26. The event will include brief remarks from Lee County Commissioners and other officials.

The damage caused by Hurricane Ian

County staff and the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation will highlight park amenities. Those unable to attend the ribbon cutting can watch it via livestream on Lee County's YouTube channel or on Lee County's Facebook channel.

The $2.6 million project was funded through the Florida Division of Emergency Management Legislative Appropriations Program Fund. The project included demolition and removal of damaged equipment and concrete, as well as construction of new splash pads.

Inside the new space

The design-build project, completed by Gulfpoint Construction Company Inc., features new concrete pads, plumbing fixtures, electrical components, shade structures, water features, signage and fencing. Lakes Regional Park is one of Lee County's most popular destinations, and the reopening of the splash pads marks a significant milestone in the park's continued recovery and improvement.
