Lane closures coming to Goodland's Stan Gober Bridge in Marco Island

GOODLAND, Fla. (WINK) — Repairs beneath the Stan Gober Bridge deck and along its supporting beams will begin within the next one to two weeks and continue through the remainder of the summer, according to Marco Island Fire Rescue.

The work will require a specialized inspection truck with a man basket positioned in the travel lanes. Daytime lane closures will be necessary, and traffic will be reduced from two lanes to one lane in short sections.

Flaggers will be on-site to direct motorists through the work zone. Drivers are urged to slow down, remain alert and follow all posted signs and instructions from flaggers.

The posted speed limit is 35 mph, and speeding fines are doubled within the construction zone. Work has also begun around select bridge piers to address scour concerns.

Crews are placing bank and shoreline riprap using large barges and heavy equipment. Divers are conducting daily inspections as the work progresses.

Boaters traveling near the bridge are advised to use caution, maintain a safe distance from the barges and work areas and operate at a slow speed to minimize wakes. The overall project remains on schedule for completion no later than spring 2027.

Marco Island Fire Rescue is urging extra caution to help protect workers both on and beneath the bridge.
