Employees at the Trebing Tile store on Del Prado Boulevard are thankful no one was hurt after they say a driver crashed into the building. Surveillance video from inside Trebing Tile captured the moment of impact. Alex Reed, an employee at the store, said he heard several loud noises before the van struck. “All of a sudden, bang — one bang, and then a second bang, and then a third bang,” Reed said. “The third bang was the building, and a bunch of tile came off. Big catastrophe.” Photos taken by the store’s manager show the damage, including a hole in the wall. A week after the crash, cones, tape and patches remained outside the business. Manager Julia Trebing Miller said the driver jumped a curb, crossed several lanes of traffic, struck the store’s sign and then hit the building. Cape Coral police ticketed the driver for careless driving. The business is filing an insurance claim. An employee went outside immediately after the crash to check on the driver. “I opened the door, and I was like, ‘Hey, anyone in there? You OK?’” Reed said. “He jumps out unscathed.” Employees said no one inside the store was injured. “I actually had a dream that night of what could have happened,” employee Kayleigh Poole said. “I’m very thankful.” DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet.
