Arrest made 1 year after Cape Coral woman's body found in Charlotte County

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)—An arrest has been made in connection with the death of Brenda Bormann-Corbin, according to her daughter.

Heather Bliss says a detective contacted her about the arrest more than a year after her mother's body was found in rural Charlotte County. WINK News is working to independently confirm those details with law enforcement.

"I'm happy that something is being done," Bliss said. "I would like for more to be done."

For more than a year, Bliss has wanted answers about her mother's death.

"This morning, I found out from the detective," Bliss said.

Bormann-Corbin vanished from Cape Coral in May 2024 before her body was found days later near Bermont Road and Chiquita Drive in rural Charlotte County. The news brought a wave of emotion for Bliss, who has lived with more questions than answers.

When asked what first came to mind when she heard about the arrest, Bliss said relief.

Bliss says she can't share many details about the investigation but says the person arrested was someone who had been her mother's friend for decades.

"She reported my mom missing on the 20th, and they found my mom's body on the 23rd," Bliss said. "Obviously, she knows more than she's let on because they've charged her with dumping her body. So she knows something, and I hope that she'll talk."

Bliss says her life has been filled with heartbreak, but she's grateful detectives never stopped working the case.

"The detectives that I've spoken with with Cape Coral, they have been great to me," Bliss said.

While this arrest marks a major step, Bliss says her family won't have peace until they know exactly what happened.

"Just please tell me what happened," Bliss said.
