ICE agents leave car in Fort Myers road after arrest, causing traffic hazard

ICE agents arrested a man on Evans Avenue near Katherine Street in Fort Myers just before noon on Friday, leaving his car parked in the middle of the road and creating a traffic hazard. Gulf Coast News had a crew that witnessed the scene and described the situation to a 911 operator when reporting it as a hazard on the road. Agents took the man into custody and drove off, leaving the vehicle behind. Vehicles were seen coming to an abrupt stop to avoid hitting the car parked. A semi-truck driver sounded his horn and swerved to avoid the parked car. ICE agents did not engage the car's emergency lights during the incident or before driving off. FMPD arrived on the scene about 10 minutes later and asked to see the Gulf Coast News video of ICE agents leaving the car in the middle of the road. Florida law authorizes officers to move vehicles that obstruct highways or pose hazards. Fort Myers police did not offer a comment on the incident. The Department of Homeland Security was notified and asked for a comment. They responded saying they were actively looking into the matter.
