'No Fishing' signs to be removed along US-41 Peace River Bridge, restoring public fishing access

"No Fishing" signage will be removed from the US-41 Peace River Bridge and replaced with new signage following a collaborative effort between the Florida Department of Transportation, Charlotte County, and the City of Punta Gorda. According to FDOT, a solution was reached to address public access and cleanliness along the bridge. In response to community feedback, FDOT and local officials agreed to remove the existing "No Fishing" signs from the bridge and replace them with "No Littering" signs. The change is expected to be effective immediately. FDOT said the adjustment restores recreational fishing access while establishing a community responsibility to keep the bridge safe, clean, and accessible. Local law enforcement will be actively monitoring the bridge to enforce littering ordinances and ensure pedestrian traffic remains unrestricted. FDOT said that if persistent littering or safety hazards arise, the "No Fishing" signs could be reinstated.
