Ocala man convicted for deadly 2024 hit-and-run crash in Glades County

An Ocala man was convicted on Friday for leaving the scene of a 2024 crash involving death in Glades County. According to the State Attorney's Office, Kimaini Jharon Holmes left the scene of a crash on Sept. 21, 2024, just after 4 a.m. Holmes was driving a semi on US-27 near Boar Hammock Ranch Road and hit a pedestrian in the northbound lane. He then drove off without stopping, the State Attorney's Office said. The news release states that another driver came across the crash as Holmes drove away and called 911 to report the incident. While that driver was on the phone, the victim, a 19-year-old man, was run over by another vehicle. That driver stopped, but the victim died at the scene. Holmes' semi was found in Georgia days later, and the Florida Highway Patrol conducted an investigation that led to his identification and arrest, according to the release.
