Ocala man convicted in 2024 crash that killed 19-year-old on US 27 in Glades County

MOORE HAVEN, Fla. (WINK) — A man from Ocala was convicted of leaving the scene of a deadly crash after a two-day trial in Glades County.

According to the Office of the State Attorney for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, Kimaini Jharon Holmes was found guilty in connection with a crash that killed a 19-year-old man.

The crash happened just after 4:00 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2024, on U.S. 27 near Boar Hammock Ranch Road, when Holmes, who was driving a semi, struck a pedestrian in the northbound lane and drove off without stopping.

Another driver came across the scene while Holmes was leaving and immediately called 911, according to investigators.

While that witness was on the phone with 911, a second vehicle struck the victim, though that driver stopped immediately.

The 19-year-old man died at the scene.

Holmes' semi was found in Georgia several days later, and the Florida Highway Patrol conducted an extensive investigation that led to his identification and arrest, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Holmes is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 28.
