Tropical moisture to ramp up rain today in SWFL

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Good morning, SWFL! We are off to a dry start across the area with temperatures running 1-4° cooler than yesterday morning with temperatures in the low to mid-70s. Expect more sun than clouds overall for your morning plans. 

After 1 p.m., grab the rain gear and keep it close. Scattered downpours will impact plans through the evening with rain chances up to 70%. Today will be wetter compared to yesterday, as a tropical wave moves over Florida from the Atlantic. This will ramp up moisture across SWFL, leading to muggier conditions this afternoon and the opportunity for heavy rainfall. 

1-3" of rain will be possible across SWFL. While not ideal for plans, this is welcome news for the ongoing drought. The best chance for rain will be between 2-7 p.m. but isolated storms will be possible until 10 p.m. 

High temperatures are expected to climb into the low-90s for most, with mid-90s possible in parts of Collier County. Factor in the humidity and it will be feeling more like 100°-108°. Easterly winds are forecast between 5-15 mph.  

Over the weekend, we'll see a 20% chance for a few morning showers followed by scattered afternoon storms with rain chances up to 40% after 2pm. High temperatures will stay in the lower 90s.
