Woman accused of hitting 110 mph with 6-year-old in car on I-75 in Collier County

A woman was arrested in Collier County on Wednesday after being accused of speeding at over 100 mph with her six-year-old child in the car. According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver traveling eastbound on Golden Gate Parkway toward I-75. The vehicle was estimated to be traveling between 60 and 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Deputies located the vehicle at a red light at the intersection of Golden Gate Parkway and Santa Barbara Boulevard. Once the light turned green, the driver accelerated to speeds of 90 to 95 mph in a 45 mph zone, the report said. The driver then took the exit onto northbound I-75 and accelerated to 110 mph, cutting off other vehicles and following too closely in the process, the report said. Deputies pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Karina Meza, 27. Deputies noted that Meza's six-year-old son was in the car throughout the entire incident and was not in a child car seat, the report said. When asked why she was speeding, Meza was unable to provide deputies with an answer. Meza was arrested under Florida's super speeder law and was cited for dangerous excessive speeding, following too close, and not having a proper child restraint.
