Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department arrested a woman who is accused disturbing the body of Brenda Corbin, a Cape Coral woman who was found in Charlotte County days after she was reported missing. Corbin's daughter told Gulf Coast News that an arrest had been made in connection to her mother's death on Friday. According to court documents, Corbin, who suffered from dementia, was being taken care of by Lori Hamilton, 60. Hamilton was reportedly a longtime friend of Corbin, and was Corbin's power of attorney. Documents say that Hamilton reported Corbin missing in Cape Coral on May 20, 2025. Hamilton told CCPD officers that she helped Corbin get into bed, and that that was the last time she had seen Corbin. Corbin's body was located by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers on May 23, 2025, in some bushes near Bermont Road in Charlotte County. Documents say that her body was badly decomposed. An autopsy could not reveal a cause of death due to the decomposition, court records say. Detectives say that Hamilton's phone pinged in the Babcock Ranch area, and that her vehicle was seen traveling on FL-31 at Cypress Parkway at around 4:48 a.m. on May 19. A search warrant was served to Hamilton's residence, phone and vehicle. When Hamilton's vehicle was placed in a lineup with others, K9 dogs alerted to the odor of human remains at or near the tailgate of the vehicle. In Hamilton's truck, detectives say they found fresh damage in the interior, Corbin's insurance and social security cards and Corbin's medications. License Plate Reader cameras also pinged Hamilton's truck to the same area where Corbin's body was found, documents say. On Hamilton's phone, detectives say they found location history that placed it in the same area Corbin's body was found. When detectives asked Hamilton why her truck was seen in the area where Corbin's body was found, she reportedly did not give a clear answer, and said that she had horses in that area. Hamilton was arrested on Wednesday, and is facing a charge of disturbing a dead body.
