We've seen a few stray showers along the coast this morning and early afternoon, but the weather is about to get much more active.
Temperatures have climbed into the low to mid-90s across Southwest Florida, with inland Collier County once again the hot spot. In places like Ave Maria and Immokalee, feels-like temperatures are reaching between 106 and 109 degrees.
As we move through the rest of the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous, with the greatest coverage expected later today into the evening. Storms will be possible across much of Southwest Florida, including along the I-75 corridor and around Lake Okeechobee.
Some of today's stronger storms could produce torrential rainfall, gusty winds and frequent lightning. There is also a low-end risk for localized flooding, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same areas.
If you're heading out this afternoon or evening, keep the umbrella handy and stay weather-aware. Storms could develop quickly.
Sunday will start off relatively quiet, with a stray shower possible during the morning. Storm activity will ramp up again during the afternoon and evening, although overall coverage should be lower than what we're seeing today.
Temperatures will remain hot, with highs in the mid-90s and feels-like temperatures once again running well above 100 degrees.
A noticeable change in the weather pattern arrives Monday as drier air moves into the region. This will lower rain chances while allowing temperatures to climb.
The drying trend becomes even more pronounced Tuesday as Saharan dust moves into the area. The combination of drier air and Saharan dust will help suppress rain chances across much of Southwest Florida through the middle and latter part of next week.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected to make a return by the following weekend.
No tropical development is expected over the next seven days.
Winds will shift from the southeast to the south at 5–10 knots, with wave heights around 1–2 feet.
Boating conditions should remain manageable, but keep an eye on the radar as thunderstorms develop, especially during the afternoon and evening.
