FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—Average auto insurance premiums in Florida fell 19% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same time last year, according to Forbes.
That was the biggest drop of any state. The report looked at more than 1.5 million auto insurance policies nationwide.
This comes after years of rising rates. Forbes says average auto insurance premiums nationwide rose about 23% between 2023 and 2026.
For Florida drivers, this 19% drop could bring some relief. But there is a big caveat—a lower statewide average doesn't mean every driver's bill is automatically going down.
Your rate still depends on things like your driving history, your ZIP code, your coverage and your insurance company. Forbes says if you haven't shopped around in the last year, this could be a good time to get some new quotes.
The advice is to compare at least three companies and look beyond just the price to make sure you're getting the coverage you actually need.
