Cape Coral gas leak near SE 47th Terrace cleared after evacuation

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — An excavator struck a natural gas line behind Merrick Seafood on Southeast 47th Terrace, causing a leak and prompting evacuations.

The Cape Coral Fire Department's hazardous materials team responded along with TECO to mitigate the hazard. Surrounding businesses were asked to evacuate as a precaution.

The Cape Coral Police Department reported the leak in the 1300 block of Southeast 47th Street. Buildings on the south side of the 1200-1300 block of Southeast 47th Street and the north side of the 1200-1300 block of Southeast 47th Terrace were affected by the evacuation order.

The Cape Coral Fire Department said the hazard has been mitigated and the evacuation has been rescinded.
