Gas leak forces evacuations in area of SE 47th St and Vincennes Blvd in Cape Coral

A gas leak in the 1300 block of Southeast 47th Street has prompted evacuations, according to the Cape Coral Police Department. According to CCPD, buildings on the south side of the 1200-1300 block of Southeast 47th Street and the north side of the 1200-1300 block of Southeast 47th Terrace are being asked to evacuate the area as a precaution. The Cape Coral Fire Department says that an excavator struck a natural gas line behind Merrick Seafood on Southeast 47th Terrace, causing a leak. Firefighters, along with TECO have responded to mitigate the hazard. If you are in this area, CCPD says not to use heat or an open flame.
